© Class Trend Ltd.  Alan Mogridge took a flyer to lead heat 1, but not for long. Ben Wilson dived through into the lead on the third turn and Ricky followed suit out of the pits bend. Garry Stead also passed Moggo on the second lap but never looked like catching the rampant Tigers pairing. Graham Drury's guest reserves levelled the scores with an emphatic win against the Tigers weakest links. Cooperman passed Benji on the second lap but never looked like catching the Comets. Sanchu sped into the lead in heat 3 and Kyle passed Tomasz Piszcz on the first turn to claim another 5-1. The Comptons were first to show in heat 4 but the Comets pair were climbing all over Benji's back wheel. James Wright spluttered to a halt on the second lap but Joel Parsons powered around Benji on the second turn and then went on to put André under pressure. With an asset like that on our books our reserves need to look to their laurels. Garry Stead and Moggo trapped ahead in heat 5 but Kyle and Emiliano passed him simultaneously on the third bend to share the heat. Tigers lead by 6 points.

Ricky and Ben scorch clear to win heat 6, James Wright passed Ben Powell for the odd point. André easy winner of heat 7 but Paul just couldn't find his way past Rusty at the back of the field. Perhaps if he occasionally made the gate? Heat 8 took forever to complete! First attempt aborted after Joel Parsons (on a tactical ride) anticipated the start. Second time Joel nudged the tapes earning himself a 15 metre handicap. Third attempt and Alan Mogridge is so reluctant to move up to the tapes that Dave Dowling loses his patience and excludes him under the 'time to tapes' allowance. Fourth attempt is looking good until Benji falls trying to pass Ben Powell on the first turn and picks up an exclusion himself. Fifth time lucky for Ben Wilson who wins from Ben Powell with Joel Parsons falling on the pits turn but clambering back on for the two points for third place. The Comets trap ahead in heat 9. Kyle dives inside on turn three to lead briefly but James Wright regains the lead out of turn four. James and Kyle have a tremendous scrap while at the back Emiliano gradually hauls in Ben Powell before blasting high and wide around the pits turn just getting the verdict by inches on the finish line. Tomasz makes another blinding start to lead heat 10 and he moves very wide to stop Ricky making the outside swoop. Ricky switches to the inside line and follows Ben past for another scintillating 5-1. The Tigers now lead by 13 points.

Garry Stead is on a tactical ride in heat 11 but try as he might he cannot get the better of André. Moggo trundles around for third with Cooperman unable to do anything about it. Sanchu and Benji show ahead in heat 12 but Tomasz goes from third to first on the third turn. Emiliano makes amends regaining the lead on the pits turn but Benji loses third place to Joel for another shared heat. Ricky and André speed clear of Garry and James in heat 13 but Ricky suddenly loses power on the last lap and is passed by both of the Comets. Rusty Harrison concludes his miserable night by exceeding the time allowance. Kyle easily takes his first win of the night but Cooperman is again sluggish from the start and never troubles the Comets guest reserves. André and Ben get the nod for heat 15, as do Tomasz and James for the Comets. Ben takes a heavy tumble on the first turn but the ref invites all four riders back for the restart. André takes another comfortable win while James and Ben are involved in another super scrap which comes to a premature conclusion as the race is stopped when Tomasz takes a heavy fall into the third turn fence.

The Tigers take a thirteen point advantage to Derwent Park for the second leg. The Comets look much stronger than they were when we beat them on their own strip back in July and we could have quite a battle on our hands. André looked to be coping with his injured collarbone but the team were badly let down by the reserves neither of whom managed to finish ahead of an opposing rider all night!
