Not much point in a heat-by-heat analysis. Suffice it to say that the Diamonds were totally outclassed. They will probably cite the light drizzle that fell throughout the meeting but it didn't seem to be a problem to the Tigers. Perhaps their captain's antipathy towards the Owlerton circuit rubbed off on them?

Ricky dropped his solitary point to Jiri (junior) in heat 1, but seemed to be struggling for power compared to last week. Ben had a triumphant night and only missed out on a maximum when he was stitched up on the first bend in the nominated heat (which he was eligible to ride in Andy, 1 or 2 of the three heat leaders, or 1 or 2 of the three top scorers as Ian Thomas well knows, see the Comic).

Emiliano was hit and miss, but I'm sure he will soon click. Paul had a counter shaft slip while challenging in heat 2 which threw his primary chain and also b******d an engine mounting. Oh dear! All donations will be gratefully received.

So who does that leave? Skipper André was untouchable and Kyle rode forcefully to his first perfect maximum and was voted "man of the match" by referee Margaret Vardy. In due deferrence to Kyle, whom I admire and support, she got it wrong. Star of the night had to be Benji Compton. Last week he emulated Sean Wilson's debut by winning his first race at Owlerton as a full member of the Tigers team. Even Sean took a while longer before claiming his first maximum!!
