© Class Trend Ltd.  The Islanders can usually be relied on to give us a good run at Owlerton, Chris Holder had already shown us what he is capable of and I was looking forward to seeing how Krystof Stojanowski took to our strip. Ben and Ricky got us off to a fine start with a maximum win in heat 1 although Chris was right on Ricky's back wheel all the way to the flag. Disaster in heat 2 as Benji rears on the second bend and loses control throwing his bike into the fence and taking an awkward tumble. It's into the ambulance and off to the Northern General for an x-ray on his knee which he couldn't straighten. Cooperman passes Chris Johnson on turn two and wins by a comfortable margin while Nick Simmons loses a chain on the last bend but picks himself up and pushes home for the odd point. Kyle wins heat 3 from hard chasing Jason Doyle with Emiliano outpacing Krystof in third place. Chris Johnson replaces Nick Simmons after 2 minutes in heat 4 but he clips Ray Morton's back wheel on the first bend and takes a heavy tumble, with Ray also falling on the exit of turn two. There is another lengthy delay while Ray receives attention on the track but he is able to walk slowly back to the pits. André takes an easy win in the rerun with Cooperman backing him up for the 5-1 and the Tigers extend their lead to ten points. Kyle passed leader Chris Holder on the second lap of heat 5 but it didn't last long as Chris regained the lead on the next bend, while Emiliano gradually wore Jason Bunyan down before going around him on the second turn on the last lap.

Ricky is penalized for catching the tapes with the peak of his helmet in heat 6 and is sent back 15 metres. Ben leads the way from Ray Morton and Ricky has already caught the field by the third turn and flashes past the startled Chris Johnson who panics and loses control. Referee Ron Allan excludes Ricky who is less than happy as the video replay showing all around the stadium confirms his innocence. André sees Cooperman is right behind him in heat 7 and elects to team ride him home ahead of Jason Doyle. Paul is back out again in heat 8 but Jason Bunyan is getting back into the groove and passes him on the first lap. Ray Morton has withdrawn from the meeting feeling the effects of his fall in heat 4. Emiliano is left standing at the starting gate in heat 9 leaving Kyle to outpace the Islanders reserve pair. Ricky wins heat 10 but the impressive Jason Doyle spoils Ben's maximum hopes.

Jason Bunyan nudges the tapes in heat 11 and chooses not to take the handicap. André scorches away to win and Chris (on a tactical) doubles his points ahead of Cooperman. Another delay as Chris Johnson is excluded for exceeding the time allowance in heat 12. Emiliano drives under Jason Doyle out of turn two, and Cooperman goes around Nick Simmons on the same bend. Jason (on a tactical) tries the wide line on turn three but clatters into the fence. Luckily he is soon back on his feet and walks back to the pits. Nick suffers engine problems in the rerun gifting the Tigers a 5-0. Krystof comes into heat 13 as a tactical substitute for Ray but hasn't a hope of catching the Sheffield top pair who take a majestic 5-1. Krystof is out again in heat 14, just the one starter for the Islanders who are running out of both men and bikes, not a good position at the start of a Northern tour! Kyle and Cooperman attempt some team riding of their own and it is looking good until the last bend when Paul is expecting Kyle to be on his inside and moves over to let him through, only for Kyle to go for the win with a wide last bend swoop which he has to abort as Paul crosses his line allowing Krystof to nip cheekily up the inside and steal second place on the line. Ricky takes the lead in heat 15 with a barnstorming first lap and André slots in behind leaving Chris in his wake.

Not a classic meeting with too many hold ups and unbalanced sides. Chris Holder managed just one win for the Islanders who just ran out of resources. They will have to regroup now as they are at Workington (Friday) and then Glasgow (on Sunday). The Tigers didn't have it all their own way though. Ricky was harshly excluded in heat 6, Emiliano was left standing in heat 9, and of course we lost Benji after his heat 2 tumble. Fingers crossed for good news from the hospital...
