Sheffield v Wolverhampton programme The Tigers got off to a dream start in their opening home match back in the top flight. Justin headed the field from gate 2 and Troy Batchelor from the outside gate joined him exiting turn 2 after which the pair were never troubled. James Wright made a superb start from gate 1 in heat 2 while partner Josh Bates desperate attempts to round Broc Nicol nearly cost him third place. Nick Morris led from the inside gate in heat 3 with Kyle on his tail but Adam Ellis from the outside gate took the long way around the first two turns and left them all in his wake down the back straight. Jack Holder made no mistake from the outside gate and won by a big margin, but Josh was working hard to get on terms with Tom Bacon but only succeeded in going further behind before retiring. Luke Becker and Sam Masters off the outside gate took a flyer in heat 5 and Kyle was unable to catch them. Tigers 4 points ahead.

Troy led the charge from gate 2 in heat 6. Justin tried the outside swoop but caught too much drive and narrowly avoided the pit gate allowing Rory through to second place. Nick Morris and Ryan Douglas led the way in heat 7 but Jack drew alongside Ryan on the third bend only for Ryan to take his line. Jack was battling back into contention when Ryan locked up on turn two and Jack had to rapidly lay his bike down. Rerun without Ryan and Jack was untroubled this time. Broc Nicol took Tom Bacon's place in heat 8 and the USA pair were never in danger. Kyle was joined by Adam exiting turn 2 to win heat 9. Troy became the meat in a Morris/Douglas sandwich on the first turn of heat 10 and never recovered. Tigers stay 4 points ahead.

Heat 11 and Jack off gate 2 went wide on turn 1 and baulked James but won easily from Sam and Luke. Nick Morris and Broc Nicol led the way in heat 12 but Josh Bates took an absolute purler into the second bend air fence. Adam made amends in the restart for his third heat win. All the big guns were out in heat 13. Troy off gate 1 led the way from Sam but Jack set himself up perfectly on the pits turn and dived under Sam entering turn 1 for a maximum heat win. Ryan Douglas off gate 1 made no mistakes to win heat 14 but Kyle and James had the legs of Tom Bacon. Wolves need a heat win for bonus point but Troy makes a blinding start to win heat 15 and the Tigers have all three match points.

General consensus is there was too much grip around the outside and not enough inside. Early doors but they now have three weeks to work on it. Wolverhampton on Monday would normally be a nightmare for Sheffield teams, but this is a new era and it will be interesting to see what occurs.
