Track record was 72.6 Dave Jessup, 28 April 1976 | 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 | 08 | 09 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 72.6 | 74.4 | 75.0 | 74.6 | 74.4 | 76.2 | 73.6 | 75.0 | 75.0 | 74.4 | 74.6 | 72.4 | 73.6 |
Norwegian Dag Lovaas had his best match of the season speeding to a full maximum while Gordon Kennett first equalled the track record set by Reading's Dave Jessup the previous week, and then broke it in heat 12. Reserve Steve Weatherley was second highest scorer for the Rebels, while the Tigers operating rider replacement for the injured Arnie Haley relied heavily on Doug Wyer and Reg Wilson.
Interesting comment in the programme notes about
starting procedures;
'The white-hot rivalry between Master Jessup and our own Captain Kennett led to the odd spot of jiggery-pokery
as they tried to con each other on the starting gate. Neither really needs to do this sort of thing - and
it certainly didn't amuse referee Downs who suggested, forcibly, that they might care to make a contribution
to the Rider's Benevolent Fund to remind them that it didn't really pay!'
