The Poole Pirates had won the week before, and the Sheffield Tigers had tamed the Lions at Wembley in the previous season so we rather fancied our chances. Alas it was not to be as our second-strings failed to offer any kind of back-up to the heat-leaders. Bengt Larsson was (again) away on World Championship rounds in Sweden so we utilised Australian John Boulger from Leicester as a guest.

The Lions new signing Gote Nordin dropped just two points, and their captain 'Haggis' dropped his only point in the last heat as the Wembley team took their first home win. In the second-half a young Rhodesian called Peter Prinsloo won the 'Cubs clash' from Sverre Harrfeldt, while Gote Nordin took his second successive Grand Final win, this week being sponsored by disc jockey Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart.

Programme notes suggested that the previous weeks newly-laid track caused quite a few problems for JAP mounted Tony Clarke while his ESO mounted team mates coped better with the conditions.
