The Scottish Tigers lost Wal Morton before their season even started. Eddie Lack and Canadian Bruce Venier took tumbles in the previous weeks match against Norwich and with three riders on the injured list Ian Hoskins programme notes thanked Wembley's Alec Jackson for loaning them Brian Sharpe. Maurice Stobbart was also tempted out of retirement, but things took a turn for the worse when Gruff Garland came a cropper in his first ride and took no further part in the meeting.

The Tigers included Stan William's kid brother Len to replace Alf Elliot who had taken a fall at Wigan. Tommy Allott and Tommy Bateman both rode unbeaten and young Len was only beaten by top home rider Will Lowther.
