Pete Smith was still sidelined and his place went to Rick France who provided three of the Pirates heat
winners. By comparison the Tigers had strength in depth with only Rodney Haynes
who hit the fence in heat 2 not being paid for at least
one heat win. This result set up the final against Ipswich who had beaten Exeter in the other semi-final.
