Stoke programme  Following the demolition job we perpetrated a few days ago you would expect the betting fraternity to be putting the clothes off their back on an away win. A complete no-hoper at Owlerton on Thursday, Frank Facher metamorphosed into a premier league heat leader. For the Potters sake let's hope he doesn't regress.

Josef Franc won the toss and chose the inside gates. Frank made a lightening start from gate 4 (which many home fans expected to be pulled back!) and didn't put a wheel wrong ahead of Hugh Skidmore. Josh Auty was trailing the field and just couldn't find a way to pass Ricky Wells in third place. Lubos Tomicek and Jan Graversen trapped ahead in heat 2 and despite all his efforts Simon Lambert just couldn't find a way around them. Josef led heat 3 but Richard Hall trailed the field and his leg trailing style just saw him losing ground to Taylor Poole and Lee Smart. The Tigers trapped ahead in heat 4 but as Ricky Ashworth pulled away Lubos and Ricky Wells both passed Simon exiting turn two. Taylor fell on the first corner of heat 5 taking Hugh off and causing Josh to throw his machine down to avoid the fallen riders. I'm surprised Jim McGregor didn't call all four back, and even more surprised by the home fans reaction to Hugh and the verbal abuse he suffered for the rest of the evening! Lee led the rerun but was passed by Josh exiting turn two as the Tigers trimmed the Potters lead to four points.

Ash trapped to win heat 6. Tomas Suchanek never strayed from the white line but came agonizingly close to passing Frank on the run to the finish line. The Tigers pair trapped in heat 7 and Pepe covered the inside line while Richard blasted precariously around the outside. Hugh led heat 8 but was under pressure until Lubos spluttered to a halt on the second lap. Simon's gifted point put the Tigers ahead for the first time just as the stadium suffered a power cut! Half an hour later the lights flickered back on and after a short wait for the fence to inflate the action recommenced. Ash trapped to win heat 9. Frank led heat 10 with Pepe hot on his exhaust. The Tigers acting skipper checked out his team mate in third place and elected to team ride him home for the shared points preserving the Tigers slender two point lead.

Josh took Jan wide on the second turn of heat 11 and was very nearly passed by Lubos up the inside but held on to take the checkered flag. Pepe trapped to win heat 12. Ash and Josh made brilliant starts and took maximum points from heat 13. Shared points from heat 14 would assure the Tigers victory but Lee led from the gate. Richard went far too wide at the end of the first lap allowing Lubos through into second but Richard re-passed him out of turn two on the second lap and just held it to the line. Pepe won the toss for gate positions and chose the outside gates. Frank took a flyer and the Tigers team rode to keep Lubos at bay to claim a three (league) point away win.

The Potters sorely missed Claus Vissing with his rider replacements totaling just 4+1, and they tracked just two survivors from the side which beat us back in April.
