The visitors turned up two men short tracking Arthur Rowe in place of Peter Kelly and using reserve Frank Wooster to cover for Peter Jarman. The Tigers responded by having a 'field day' and provided the first man past the chequered flag in every race, with maximums for Stuart Hickman, Len Williams and Tony Robinson.

Tickets were on sale for the World Final at Wembley on September 17 priced at 21/-, 12/6d, 10/6d, 8/6d and 3/6d. The Fenton Road Filling Station, Wortley Road at Rotherham (Service manager: Frank Varey) were advertising petrol at 4/½d (JET 93) and 4/5½d (JET 100) per gallon (that's under 5p per litre), and Harrisons on London Road were Sheffield's main Ford Dealer with a Consul featured in their advert.
