Rider of the Year With the end of the season fast approaching and the clubs who had missed the play offs having no matches, suitable guests were few and far between, until Ricky Wells came to our rescue by volunteering to rearrange his flight home. Sheffield were on a hiding to nothing against the Rebels. The Tigers squeezed into the play offs with 40 league points while the Rebels topped the table with 60 points. We were one of only four clubs who had beaten the Rebels all season, although the last Owlerton encounter resulted in a 12 points Rebels win in the League Cup semi-final.

Rohan Tungate won the first heat in a fast time but the Tigers two guests shared the heat. Arthur was the meat in the Rebels guests sandwich on the way to the first turn in heat 2 and never recovered lost ground. Stuart Robson took Simon's ride in heat 3 and outpaced Charles Wright, with Josh claiming third when Paul Starke fell and remounted. Josh Grajczonek trapped ahead in heat 4 and Kyle passed James Shanes before blowing his engine. Kyle was rider replacement in heat 5 but Rohan again dominated from the start. A shared heat went out of the window on the last lap as second placed Josh Bates engine expired gifting a point to Jake Allen. The Tigers slim hopes have taken a blow and the Rebels now lead by 6 points.

Josh G wins heat 6 from the two Tigers guests, Kyle wins heat 7 with Arthur chasing down Charles Wright and getting the verdict on the finish line. James Shanes incurs Jim McGregor's wrath and is excluded from heat 8. Stuart leaves it late but passes Jake on the inside of the last bend to take the win but Rob Branford relegates Nathan to last. JoshG shows both JoshB and Ricky the best way around Owlerton winning heat 9. Paul Starke won heat 10 but all eyes were on the tremendous struggle between Stuart and Charles Wright which eventually went Stuart's way. The Tigers have pegged the Rebels lead at 6 points.

Kyle raises the home fans hopes beating Rohan in heat 11 and with Arthur passing Jake on the third bend the defecit is reduced. Charles rounds the field and wins heat 12 from JoshB and Arthur in the joint fastest time of the night. Rohan leads heat 13 from Kyle and Ricky but JoshG doesn't know when he's beaten and powers under Ricky on the second bend of the last lap. Arthur makes his best gate of the night to win heat 14 from Paul and JoshB takes third to leave the Tigers 4 points behind with just the nominated heat remaining. A 5-1 would have meant a draw but although Kyle valiantly led the field after blasting around the field from gate four it was JoshG who outpaced Stuart and Rohan to win the first leg and the Rebels look firm favourites (as they deserve to be) for the title.
