Top scorer ... Redcar bring two Owlerton specialists with them in the shape of Richard Hall and Jason Garrity so a close encounter was on the cards. Josh and Todd showed Jason a clean pair of heels in heat 1 and I guess Jason wasn't properly geared. Heat two brought us the first Owlerton encounter between Jack Parkinson- Blackburn and his step dad. Starting from gate 4 Jack rounded the field to lead by the back straight with Rob Branford tucked in behind him. Richard tried several experimental lines, most of them hairy, in an attempt to get on terms but only succeeded in dropping further behind. Coty Garcia took the rider replacement ride in heat 3 and flew around the first turns to take the lead. Josh Bates and Lasse Bjerre got in each others way at the start of the second lap and Lasse lost his place to Charles Wright and couldn't regain lost ground. Ben Barker was off gate 4 in heat 4 and Kyle Howarth couldn't find a way past on the inside, and seemed reluctant to risk an outside attempt. Jason made a perfect start to heat 5 only for Mike Breckon to call all four back. The Tigers showed first in the restart but Lasse shed a chain at the start of the second lap. Tigers lead by four points.

JoshG and Todd looked set to repeat their heat 1 maximum in heat 6 until Ben Barker took a lurid dive from three bike lengths behind into the third bend on the last lap. Todd was left with little option and baled out as the fence loomed large. I wonder what Mike Breckon would have thought if he'd been in Todd's boots? Jack was out in place of Rob in heat 7 for a reprise of his clash with his step dad. This time he didn't make the start and indeed took a tumble on the first turn. Kyle won easily ahead of Charles. Rob won heat 8 from hard chasing Richard but Todd was taken out by Coty on the second turn and although he made up lost ground he couldn't find his way past. Lasse powered around Ben out of turn two to win heat 9 and Josh Bates showed Ben a textbook 3rd bend dive on the second lap to claim second place. JoshG and Todd were untroubled winning heat 10 while Richard and Charles had their own private battle for the odd point which went to Richard on the finish line. Tigers lead now by twelve points.

Jason was wearing the black and white as a tactical in heat 11. Rob Branford was nearly fenced on the second turn and retired soon after. Kyle battled past Jason on the inside of the pits turn at the end of the first lap but Jason wound it all on around the outside of turns one and two and reclaimed the lead down the back straight. Kyle never gave up trying but Jason held on for double points. Rob came in for Jack in heat 12 and led the way until Lasse passed him on the inside at the end of lap 3. Charles wasn't happy with the way Richard passed him on the first lap and words were exchanged at the pits gate. Ben didn't get as far as the back straight in heat 13. Jason blasted around JoshG out of turn two and led for 1/4 of a lap until he shed a chain, leaving Josh and Kyle an unchallenged 5-0. JoshB finished his best home performance this year ahead of hard pressing Charles and Rob with Richard bringing up the rear in heat 14. Kyle and Lasse were nominated to oppose Jason and Ben. Jason led out of turn two but Kyle looked for the third bend dive. Jason had just enough room to reclaim the lead out of turn four and pulled ahead while Ben was chasing after Lasse in third. Ben found good grip around the third and fourth turns, pulled alongside over the start and finish and completed the pass into turn one on the last lap to restore a little of the Bears pride.

Thanks to Jason and Ben for some spirited opposition, Scunthorpe away next on Sunday.
