The Wasps started in determined style on a track which had suffered from torrential rain in Sheffield for the previous few days. Mads Korneliusson trapped in heat 1 but André was just filled in as soon as he tried to get around him, and the inside was just too wet. Carl Wilkinson did the same ahead of James in heat 2, and heat 3 was shared when Richard Hall dropped a chain on the first lap. André nursed Ben around for a 5-1 in heat 4 ahead of Tim Stone's curious choice of guest, Neil Collins, and in the rain the two Ric's eclipsed Mads to extend the lead to 8.

Neil was given a tactical ride in heat 6 but Andy Moore was the early leader until Richard went around him on the third turn, and Carl Wilkinson easily outpaced his partner to negate the double points. A brave move by Birko saw him round Kristian Lund on the last lap to follow his skipper home in heat 7, and Andy Moore displayed some Elite League form to win heat 8 from Kristian. Ricky won heat 9 but Neil Collins made the inside line work to pass Richard Hall, and as the rain stopped Ricky took heat 10 as well with Andy rounding Pavel Ondrasik on the last turn for yet another maximum heat win.

Mads was given a tactical ride in heat 11 but couldn't live with André and James, and Richard and Ben achieved the same ahead of Pavel and Kristian in heat 12. André passed Mads on the 4th turn to take the lead in heat 13 while at the back Andy was contained by Neil Collins. James blasted around both Kristian and Ricky to lead heat 14 but slowed before the line to give Ricky his full maximum. James was nominated for heat 15 and he duly followed his skipper home for yet another maximum heat win and was deservedly nominated 'man of the match' by referee Dale Entwistle. Shortly after the meeting finished there was yet another torrential downpour.

After Sunday's heroics this was poor entertainment due in part to the track conditions and the outclassed opposition. Craig Watson would have livened things up considerably but his replacement was a very poor choice. Newport is not a happy hunting ground for the Tigers but surely even they can't let that bonus point slip...?
