Man of the match It was bad news for people arriving late as the free programmes had all gone (and they called Neil a skinflint!), which got worse as start time came as the riders were just milling around by the pit gate watching the drizzle through the fog. Then, suddenly there was movement and it was announced that the riders had decided to get on with it. Three cheers!

The Diamonds won the toss which planted Steady in the potato field which was gate 4! Christian Henry sped away and Steady seemed reluctant to venture too wide eventually passing Ludvig Lindgren on the third bend, last lap. Chris Schramm led heat 2 as far as the second bend when Andre Compton dived under him into the lead. Josh Bates spluttered to a halt while lying third on the second lap. Heat 3 was Leigh Lanham's turn to climb out of gate 4 but all eyes were on Taylor Poole who rode a lovely line to keep Stuart Robson behind him. The Diamonds were fast away to lead heat 4 and Josh christened the new air fence on the fourth turn and couldn't clear the track as his bike was stuck under it. Anton Rosen led the rerun with Adam Roynon rounding Lewis Rose on turn two. Lewis went hard into the fence on the third turn of lap 3 and there ensued a lengthy delay while the fence was re-assembled. Heat 5 saw Leigh and Taylor team riding to a convincing 5-1 leaving the Tigers with a three point lead.

Steady led heat 6 which was stopped when Chris tested the fence repairs (exact same spot) which seemed to require a replacement panel. It was Steady again in the rerun and Simon made the best of gate 4 to give Anton a run for his money. Without being spectacular he closed in on the Swede and passed him on the inside at the start of the last lap. Adam and Andre led heat 7 with Andre taking the lead around the third turn. Stuart Robson caught Adam by the second lap and passed him on turn two, but Andre was streets ahead by then. Simon trapped to lead heat 8 but Josh couldn't find his way past the Diamonds, although he didn't venture very wide. Anton popped out ahead in heat 9 and Taylor and Leigh looked content to keep Chris at bay and maintain the Tigers lead. Steady did the business in heat 10 and the Tigers have a comfortable nine point lead.

Christian led heat 11 until Adam sliced under him into the third bend and then rode him wide on the fourth allowing Andre through into second place. Stuart and Leigh diced for two laps in heat 12 before Stuart eventually got the upper hand. Steady trapped in heat 13 and Adam came a cropper trying to go around Ludwig but was quickly up to clear the track. Lewis Kerr eventually showed us what he's made of as he won heat 14 and Taylor recovered from a poor start (gate 4 again) to pass Chris down the back straight. His reward was a nomination for heat 15 and while the skipper won from Stuart, Taylor battled past Anton and held him out for the Tigers first heat advantage since heat 7.

A seven point winning margin over a powerful visiting side when one of your reserves fails to open his account bodes well for the future. Joe seems to have solved some of Taylor's mechanical issues and young Simon has shown us he knows how to pass. Leigh looked good paired with Taylor and Adam said he was experimenting with a different set-up. Perhaps he'll re-think that one. Steady looked good. Andre started well and young Josh will look on this meeting as a valuable lesson.

All we need now is some dry weather on Speedway nights!
