2012 Programme After torrential rain at lunchtime there were doubts there would be a meeting at all, but come tapes up it was a balmy evening and the track looked fine. The Diamonds have a good team and seem to be on top form and the Tigers will have their work cut out to take a defendable lead to the return at Brough Park on Sunday.

Claes Nedermark trapped to win heat 1 and Stuart Robson passed Hugh Skidmore on the third lap for a Diamonds maximum heat win. The Worrall brothers have had hours of track time at Owlerton but Joe Haines led from the tapes in heat 2. Emiliano Sanchez passed Steve Worrall out of turn two but couldn't find his way past Richie. Mark Lemon led from tapes to flag in heat 3 with Richard Hall busting a gut but unable to make the pass. Ricky Wells had his Wolverhampton gating gloves on and dominated heat 4. Richie didn't even make the first turn and Emiliano made full use of Ludwig Lindgren's mistake on the second lap to claim second place and then held off the ensuing challenges. Chris Schramm trapped to win heat 5 but Richard was stitched up on the first turn. Richard took third place as they started the second lap when Claes went too wide but he couldn't catch Stuart. Tigers lead stands at four points but they will need a bigger margin on Sunday.

Ludwig led heat 6 but Josef Franc was noticeably quicker and powered around him on the third lap. Ricky trapped to win heat 7 and Joe Haines put Mark under lots of pressure but couldn't make the pass. Emiliano trapped to win heat 8 but Hugh had to work a little harder passing Claes on the second turn and Richie on the pits turn, both on the first lap. Richard trapped to win heat 9 and Chris was closing in on Ludwig when his engine cut out on the third lap. The Tigers took a tapes to flag win in heat 10 to extend their lead to sixteen points, which is still possibly not quite enough.

Ricky made it three wins on the trot in heat 11. Emiliano broke the tapes (with his helmet) and was replaced by Joe in heat 12. Chris's spare machine was obviously not set up for Owlerton and Mark Lemon became the visitors first race winner since he won heat 3, while Steve and Joe scrapped behind him. Joe drifted wide on the third lap allowing Steve up into second place, but then blasted around him on the pits turn to reclaim the position. Josef leads heat 13 but Ricky has his work cut out following a poor first bend. He passes Ludwig on the inside of the pits turn on the second lap and put Stuart under pressure but couldn't quite find his way past. Richard rounded the field to lead down the back straight in heat 14. Emiliano closed remorselessly in on Steve and blasted through the narrowest of gaps between Steve and the fence on the apex of the third and fourth turns to grab yet another 5-1. All the big guns were out for heat 15 and it's Ricky who takes the lead. Josef puts Mark under pressure before diving through into second on the third lap to seal a twenty six point lead from this first leg.

The Diamonds turned out to be paste replicas tonight. Lets hope the Tigers can claw their way into the next round on Sunday.
