I guess the Diamonds team will be quite different by the time they return for the PL fixture in June. By then Scott Smith should have arrived and Mario Jirout will have either got his act together or been replaced. It was a bumper night for the Tigers and Richard Hall enjoyed showing the club which dumped him what a mistake they had made.

There isn't much to say about the Diamonds individual performances. Jirout was woeful and only beat Ben Wilson, and it took him 3 laps to pass him in heat 11! Richard Juul applied himself but again only finished ahead of Ben Wilson. Danny Hughes stood in for the absent Scott Smith. Lee Smethills became the Diamonds solitary heat winner when he held off Andy Moore's challenges in heat 14 and then passed Richard Hall to deny him his maximum in the last race. Kevin Little rode to his usual Owlerton standard. The two reserves only beat Ben Wilson with Jamie Robertson looking sharpest of the pair. Heat 13 saw the new Tactical rule turn into a farsical joke. The Diamonds replaced Mario Jirout with Will Lawson off a 15m handicap but Will was unable to make up any ground. Kevin Little then suffered the widely predicted engine failure on the 2nd bend of the last lap in order that Will's point would be doubled. To hoots of derision Will's bike also expired and he had to push past Kevin on his way home for the 2 points.

Sean cruised to his first full maximum and both André and Ricky claimed paid maximums on a bumper pay night. Andy couldn't find his way past Lee Smethills in heat 14 to drop his solitary point, and James was only beaten by mechanical gremlins when following Sean home in heat 1. Ben left it late to pass Danny Hughes off the very last turn in heat 7 but otherwise looked down on power, while Richard's maximum hopes were spoiled after he was nominated for heat 15 and lost out to Diamonds top man Lee Smethills.

Can we carry this type of form with us to Loomer Road on Saturday....?
