It was all change at Brough Park as Ian Thomas tried to juggle together a winning team. Dave Bargh and Phil White had both made the move from Owlerton over the winter. Reg Wilson had been loaned to them but had returned to the Tigers with Kiwi Alan Mason moving the other way. Dave Bargh picked up an injury at Reading and had failed a fitness test resulting in rider replacement being used, while badly bruised Martin Scarisbrick was replaced by another Sheffield asset Mark Fiora. Sheffield were without Jan Pedersen who had broken his arm and intended to use junior David Walsh at no.2, but Ian Thomas was having none of it and Martin Hagon was promoted from reserve with Eric Boocock making an official protest. The scores were very close throughout the match and when Dave Morton broke the tapes in heat 12 it looked as if the Diamonds were going to shade it until Shawn and Neil produced a blinding heat 13 to deny Joe Owen and pinch the match points in the last race!

Dave Morton was the only Tigers to qualify for the second half final in which he retired leaving Phil White as the victor. There were fallers aplenty in the following Scottish Junior League match. Only two finishers in each of the three heats saw Darvel Rockets beat the Felton Flyers 9-6.
