Sheffield v Newcastle programme from 1964

The Tigers required just three points to sew up the Northern League Cup for the third consecutive season, and made almost certain of it with a run-away win against the one man Diamonds. The missing Pete Kelly's place was taken by ex-Tiger Jack Winstanley and while the reigning Provincial League Riders Champion rode to an untroubled maximum none of his team mates managed to beat a single Sheffield rider. The Tigers claimed all 13 bonus points between them, although only reserve Alan Jay scored a maximum. All the other Tigers were beaten by Ivan Mauger, wheras Alan was lucky not to come up against him in either of his rides! Difficult to know why the Diamonds were so poor as they had won at Owlerton in the Provincial League match the previous year.

Tommy Roper met Ivan Mauger in the 'Silver Sash' match race decider and won with Ivan falling, while Clive Featherby won the 'Vulcan' Individual final from Tommy Roper, Dent Oliver and Mike Watkin. Victors in the two junior races were Ken Handscombe and Derek Jay.
