(Taken from Bill Cooper's column in the following weeks programme...)

You've got to hand it to sheffield, they outrode and outgated the Lions. Luck didn't come into it. They sensed from the word go that it was going to be their night, and by heaven they certainly emphasised the fact. Tigers' team manager Terry Thornhill said afterwards, "It's not often you can go to an away match to find the whole team clicking. But they certainly did on this occasion. The lads rode like heroes!" Well, Leicester, though obviously disappointed at the way things went for them, are not taking anything away from Sheffield's "finest hour". They agreed, one and all, that the Tigers certainly "tigered".

Popular opinion is that it's all the Boss's fault that 1974 has turned out the way it has! "Should never have changed the race jacket" is a popular comment. "How the hell do you expect things to go right with a cross-eyed Lion as an emblem!"

Incidentally, the score one week later was Leicester 53, Swindon 25. Dave Jessup and Ray Wilson rode unbeaten while Martin Ashby top scored for the Robins with 10 points from 5 rides.
