Sheffield v Long Eaton from 1964

The Tigers were suffering an injury crisis and resorted to coaxing 51 year-old Wilf Jay out of retirement to ride at reserve, making the team probably unique that day in that it featured father Wilf alongside both his sons Alan and Derek.

The visitors took the lead with a win in heat 5 but it was short lived as the Tigers bounced straight back. The Tigers tail was suspect but the heat leaders saved the day although the last heat 5-1 meant the final scoreline didn't reflect the closeness of the match.

Clive Featherby broke his own track record with a time of 67 3/5 seconds in heat one. This was subsequently equalled by Ivan Mauger in 1966, but not broken until July 1968 when Bengt Larsson shaved off a further 1/5th of a second.
