The Stars were let down by their Australian heat leaders, who only scraped one point between them, while Ray Morton and Mick Poole
battled valiantly from the reserve berths. Aussie champion Steve Regeling was making his return from injury and he along with Stephen Davies and
Mick Poole were off to Sweden next week to represent their country in a World Team Cup round at Norkopping before jetting back for
the Stars league match at Dudley Wood.
Both Moran brothers had also been on the injury list and Kelly had to have an eleventh-hour medical before being declared clear to ride, but he showed his fitness with a perfect maximum. Brother Shawn, Neil Colins and Peter Carr backed him up strongly and youngsters Adrian Stevens (ironically on-loan from the Stars), Ian Stead and Sean Wilson all chipped in with valuable points to earn the Tigers a comfortable victory.
