Top scorer After days of pouring rain and more in the afternoon we entered the stadium to find a soggy greasy looking surface on the track. A half-hour delay was announced to allow the surface to dry, and then the track staff set to work. Tobiasz gets a round of applause (which he acknowledges) from the punters on the 3rd & 4th bends as he completes a full lap jog to warm himself up.

Track staff do their best and Chris Durno decrees the meeting is on. The tapes eventually went up and the racing was fast and furious. Richard Lawson rounded the field from gate 4 to win heat 1. James Wright led the way in heat 2 but Connor off gate 4 cut back on turn 2 to lead down the back straight. Adam trapped and Kyle joined him at the front out of the second bend for another 5-1 in heat 3 with Thomas Jorgensen climbing all over Richie Worrall but getting nowhere. Richard Lawson takes his third win as rider replacement in heat 4 ahead of Connor and Tobiasz who I suspect were told not to take any risks. Richard again to the front in heat 5 but Adam and Kyle are untroubled by guest Tom Brennan and the Tigers lead by 8 on the night and 20 on aggregate. The Stars are on 11 points, 9 from Richard!

Guest Sam traps from gate one in heat 6 with Thomas and Frederik Jakobsen hot on his tail but Lewis struggles from gate 3 and cannot make any impression on his ex-team. Richie leads heat 7 and James passes Tobiasz out of turn 2, but the Polish whiz kid bounces off the air fence accelerator a couple of times before his last bend effort gets him the win in a photo finish. WOW! Jason Edwards leads from the inside gate in heat 8 but Lewis rounds the others from gate 4 and switches back to take the lead off the pits turn. Connor has the legs of Frederik for third place. A glorious outside swoop sees Adam passing both Richie and Kyle down the back straight in heat 9. Guest Sam wins heat 10 and the shared heat leaves the Tigers 14 ahead on the night and 26 ahead on aggregate.

With the rain falling again Richard and Tobiasz have a four lap cliff hanger in heat 11. Trying inside and outside lines every lap Tobiasz bounced off the fence at the apex of turns 1&2 but Richard just led into turn 3. While Richard defended the inside Tobiasz switched and went around him exiting the pits turn and won the sprint for the chequered flag, well worth the admission money alone. Adam led heat 12 but Richie kept the pressure on and passed him on the inside of the pits turn lap 3. The big guns and rider replacement Tom Brennan are out in heat 13. Tobiasz traps from gate 1 and Richard splashes through a puddle on the first bend. Sam seems to get all the spray and splutters to a halt. Late replacement Connor traps to lead from gate 1 but Kyle catches and passes both on the pits bend. Thomas fights back on the second lap but Kyle gets the grip wide out off turn 2 on lap 3. Thomas clatters into the air fence on turn 3 but is soon back on his feet.

With the rain getting heavier and the result already determined Chris Durno calls a halt to the proceedings. Ironically when the riders came out to receive their medals the rain had stopped. Sam and James were both rewarded for their help. Having announced Jack as the first signing for 2023 last week, the second signing was announced tonight. "The second name on the team sheet ..." and Sam Masters runs forward with his arms raised to the amusement of everyone. No, the rider is Tobiasz to the biggest cheer of the night!
