Programme My man of the match Having lost heavily at Monmore Green the Stars were looking to ex-Tigers Nikolai Klindt and Josh Pickering to inspire them to make more of a match of this first round KO Cup leg. David Bellego (pictured right) sped to a first heat win finishing half a lap ahead of Jack in a time 15 hundredths of a second outside Ricky Ashworths 13 year old lap record. Excluding ice bikes with spiked tyres, only Ricky Ashworth has ever finished faster over 4 laps! Thomas Jorgensen was pushing hard until his retirement at the end of lap 3. (Featured in '2023 Season Review DVD' by Clean Cut Sports) . Lewis trapped to win heat 2 but Dan quickly picked off Jason Edwards by the second bend although he couldn't make up ground lost to Frederik Jakobsen. Adam Ellis trapped ahead from gate 4 in heat 3 but had lost places by the first bend and subsequently retired. Josh Pickering was untroubled by Kyle but Michael Palm Toft nearly caught him on the race to the chequered flag. Jason and Dan contested the lead in heat 4 with Tobiasz getting bogged down trying the wide line as Krzysztof ground to a halt on the first turn. Tobiasz brushed aside Dan by the end of the first lap and closed in on Jason before diving past on the inside of the pits turn on lap 3. I was so impressed by young Jason I honestly thought it was Krzysztof dicing with Tobiasz for the lead! (Also featured in '2023 Season Review DVD') . Nikolai blasted around the field from gate 4 to win heat 5 with Kyle rounding Adam at the end of the first lap. The first shared heat leaves the Tigers 6 points ahead.

Frederik moved at the start of heat 6 but it seems Krzysztof must also have touched the tapes as he was excluded despite protesting his innocence. Jack and David scorched to a comfortable win ahead of reserve Jason. Tobiasz trapped to win heat 7 from Josh and MPT who worked hard to keep Lewis at bay. Lewis lined up a big outside swoop on the last lap but Michael saw it coming and Lewis did remarkably well to stay in the saddle as his bike bounced off the air fence. Dan led heat 8 from the inside gate from Thomas with David struggling from gate 3. Thomas took the lead at the start of lap 2 for the second shared heat of the match. Kyle trapped in heat 9 with Adam making light of gate 3 to follow him home for another 5-1. Jack was on gate 3 in heat 10 and had to work hard before rounding MPT at the end of lap 3 for the odd point. David won from Josh and the Tigers have now stretched their lead to 16 points!

Nikolai traps to win heat 11 and the Tigers look content to share the heat. Heat 12 is stopped when Dan tries to pass Frederik for third place with a wide blast into turn 3 but has to bale out as the fence beckons. Consternation as he lies on the track but it seems he's only winded and is soon making his way back to the pits. Josh passes Adam exiting turn 2 in the rerun for only the visitors second heat advantage. Jack and Tobiasz are untroubled in heat 13. MPT traps to lead heat 14 but Kyle powers into the lead at the end of the first lap. Lewis does the same but on the second turn. MPT winds it all on for an outside swoop on the last turn but Lewis sees him coming and defends his line. I didn't see what conspired on the second bend after the chequered flag but when the riders got to the pit gate Lewis went for MPT and fisty-cuffs were exchanged! Jack and Tobiasz romped to the third consecutive 5-1 ahead of Josh with Nikolai retiring possibly as he's carrying an injury. Not what the visitors were looking for as the Tigers now take a 26 point lead into the second leg.
