The Tigers trailed by 6 points after four heats, but bounced back with a 5-1 with Reg Wilson winning as a tactical substitute in heat five. There was little between the teams until Bill Andrew was excluded for breaking the tapes in heat 11. Bob Valentine and Rick France took a 5-1 to put the Tigers into the lead for the first time, but it was short lived as Charlie Monk and guest Ray Wilson bounced back against Doug Wyer and Arnie Haley. With the Dukes one point ahead into the last heat it was John Titman's turn to break the tapes and Bob Valentine and Reg Wilson raced home ahead of Bill Andrew to secure the away win.
