Ole Olsen, 15 July 1976
The injury hit Hawks made a brilliant choice of guest for this KO Cup 2nd round clash. Already operating rider replacement for the absent Zenon Plech who had been banned by the Polish authorities they had also lost Trevor Hedge who had been forced into retirement and Dave Morton who had broken his leg in the League match against Poole in the previous month. Eric Broadbelt came to their aid with a magnificent 17 points (over half their total score) and only missed out on a maximum when beaten by skipper Reg Wilson in heat 13.
Keith White had a nightmare meeting culminating in an exclusion for losing his silencer in heat 11. That and Barry Thomas' fall in heat 7 were balanced by Craig Pendlebury shedding a chain in heat 9, and Dougie Wyer's bike stopping as the green light came on to start heat 10. Len Silver's latest signing was former Owlerton trialist 19 year-old Dane Bent Rassmussen.
The Tigers promoted Carl Glover into the team to replace the injured Tony Boyle with 21 year-old Phil White coming in at reserve. Other familiar names in the second half junior races included John Blackwell, Nicky Allott and Aussie Gary Guglielmi.
