Shawn's debut in Tigers colours didn't exactly set the terraces alight, but it did highlight the reason why he and Hull had decided to part company. The order went in for new Weslake equipment and the fortunes of the Tigers were soon dramatically improved.

The Hackney Hawks took a while to get going, but no Sheffield rider won a heat following Nicky Allott's success in heat 5. The Tigers held a narrow 2 point lead going into the last heat but Finn Thomsen and Zenon Plech trapped ahead of walking wounded Eric Broadbelt and Nicky Allott (who had dropped just one point so far) to steal the League points away. Nicky came out in the 'Star Shield' event for the four highest Sheffield scorers straight after the interval and passed both Doug Wyer and Phil White to claim the win!

The Senior final went to Bo Petersen ahead of (that man again) Nicky Allott, and in the Junior final both Neil Collins and Jan Zabek (sic) finished ahead of Shawn Moran.
