The Tigers called upon Swindon's Martin Ashby as a guest for Reg Wilson who had broken his leg in a crash at Wolverhampton, and utilized rider replacement for Arnold Haley who had injured his shoulder riding for Great Britain in Poland the previous week. Taffy Owen was named as our No.8 but he didn't get a ride. The Falcon's had recently strengthened their team with the addition of Australian John Titman who joined them from the Halifax Dukes. He lined up alongside fellow countrymen Geoff Mudge and Steve Reinke, American Scott Autrey and Englishmen Kevin Holden and Chris Julian. Kiwi supremo Ivan Mauger skippered the side but they were unable to repeat their Championship winning form of the previous season.

The reigning League Champions had already knocked Sheffield, the 1974 KO Cup Winners, out of this seasons KO Cup by beating us 81-75 in the preliminary round and probably fancied their chances in the League as well. Veteran Cornishman Chris Julian failed to open his account, while Ivan rode unbeaten and also lowered Phil Crump's 11 month old track record. John Titman was the only other Falcon to win a race and after ten shared heats it was Nicky Allott and Carl Glover's 5-1 in heat 8 which proved decisive. Indeed the Tigers should consider themselves lucky as John Titman was lying second in the last heat and set to draw the match when he suffered a cruel mechanical breakdown.

Taffy Owen won the second-half junior final from Billy Burton, Les Glover and Bernard Hornby. Ivan continued on his winning ways taking the senior final ahead of Carl Glover, Doug Wyer and Craig Pendlebury.
