Results thus far into the test series were; (Exeter) 54-53, (Poole) 54-54, (Wimbledon) 61-46.

The Russians took to the County Ground and built an impressive lead before Bob Kilby almost single handedly inspired the Lions fightback. In an exciting match at Poole the Lions lost Nigel Boocock in a heat 6 crash which looked very bad but left him with a broken rib. Ray Wilson won heat 18 to complete his maximum and draw the match. The Russians couldn't adapt their style to Plough Lane and were well beaten

At the Shay Alan Jay was promoted to replace injured Dave Younghusband with Reg Luckhurst taking over his reserve berth. The visitors took a liking to the slick conditions and their fast starting saw them romp into an eight point lead. Ray Wilson once again led the fightback but the visitors headed him in a deciding heat 18 to claim their first win.

In the last test at Coventry they struggled with a heavy track and couldn't peg back the Lions first half lead, eventually losing 59-49.
