2008 Programme  Edinburgh are notoriously poor visitors to Owlerton but this years favourites for the Premier League crown were expected to put up a bit of a fight. Perhaps that proved to be an incentive as all three of the Tigers heat leaders hit the track running for a change. Kyle failed to open his account but must be given a chance to learn his new home circuit, and Paul was left riding a donkey after his best engine, just back from an Eddie Bull rebuild, seized on the stand while being warmed up!

Ricky cast aside his heat 1 curse going from the outside gate around William Lawson on the first turn and Ryan Fisher on the second. Joel Parsons picked off William on the third turn but was then gifted second place when both William and Ryan coasted to a halt on the second lap. Lee Smethills took a comfortable win in heat 2 but Andrew Tulley quickly sussed the track out. Paul Cooper made a good start to lead heat 3 but was passed by André down the back straight. Thomas Jonasson (making his Owlerton debut) was straight on the pace but Paul managed to contain him until he left a gap on the inside of the last bend and Thomas beat him to the finishing line. Lee trapped ahead in heat 4 but Ben Wilson rounded Matthew Wethers and Lee on the second turn and left them both standing. I would have preferred to some good old fashioned team riding myself. William Lawson took a tumble on the outside of the second turn and was lucky to be allowed back into the restart. André took another big win (again no team riding) while Paul passed Ryan at the end of the first lap. Ryan wasted little time re-passing Paul on the second turn to share the heat but the Monarchs trail by eleven points.

Ricky and Joel take another easy maximum from heat 6. Thomas is wearing black and white in heat 7 but Ben Wilson makes no mistake and wins from the gate. Lee makes another cracking start to lead heat 8 while Joel emerges in second place after a bruising first turn clash with Ryan. Ryan tries a big outside swoop but ends up in the fence on the fourth turn, and then Aaron Summers shed a chain on the last lap and had to push home for the point. Andrew Tulley took a second turn tumble at the start of heat 9. André wins the re-run but Paul hasn't got the speed to catch Matthew. Thomas Jonasson becomes the first Monarch to win a race as he traps ahead in heat 10 and leaves the Sheffield pair standing. Tigers now leading by nineteen points.

Ben is untroubled by the Monarchs as he speeds to a win in heat 11. André powers away to win heat 12 but Lee is left at the back of the field. We'll never know how he might have responded to a little help from his skipper. Ben passed William on the second turn and went on to win heat 13. Matthew Wethers dived past Ricky on the third turn but Ricky reclaimed the place on the next lap although he couldn't catch William. Paul borrowed Ben's bike for heat 14 but Thomas made another cracking start to take the lead. Aaron is another one of those riders who doesn't know when he's beaten and he powered around Paul off the last bend to snatch second place. Ricky trapped to lead heat 15. André traded places with Thomas for two laps before pulling clear and then just failed to catch Aaron on the run to the line. Cracking race though!
