Eric Hockaday was missing for the Heathens having suffered very bad bruising to his hip at Hackney
one week previously. Ivor Hughes was promoted from reserve and second halfer Matt Mattocks was drafted in
at reserve.
The Tigers were looking to strengthen their team and were waiting for permission to make
a signing. The blank space at no.7 was filled by Bob Paulson. A good team performance saw them four points
ahead going into the last heat but Ivor Brown completed his full maximum and George Major followed him home
for a 5-1 which earned the Heathens a draw.
Tommy Roper finished last in that heat and it transpired to be his last
outing for the Tigers before his move to Long Eaton. Ex Yarmouth and Norwich
favourite Billy Bales made his home
debut for the Tigers against Exeter 5 days later with an 11 point paid maximum.
