Sheffield team, 1949

Brilliant riding by Semmens and Stan Williams spelt defeat for Coventry, who started off badly, both their representatives in the first heat falling.

In heat eight Ralph Horne, Sheffield reserve and ex-Coventry rider, fell heavily when his bike reared. He was taken to hospital for observation.

Coventry won only three heats. Levy, making his first home appearance of the season in Coventry colours, put up a very creditable performance.
