This time it was the Glasgow 'Tigers' turn to relocate to the Albion Rovers football ground at Coatbridge following their eviction from Hampden Park. Having already lost home and away to the Halifax 'Dukes' who were evidently very much 'at home' on the big banked track, they now suffered a second defeat in a challenge match against the South Yorkshire 'Tigers'.

The toothless Rider Allocation Committee had failed both clubs. Sheffield had lost both Reidar Eide and Bert Harkins and had been allocated Dave Hemus from the Belle Vue 'Aces'. Dave had simply refused to make the move and threatened to retire causing the committee to climb down. We were lucky as Rick France came into the side instead whereas Coatbridge were left without a third heat-leader and were forced into using guests. Halifax's Les Sharpe had been scheduled to ride but another last minute change to the programme was fellow Aussie John Titman.

Coatbridge looked to have the match sewn up, leading by 8 points after six races, but Sheffield retaliated strongly with back-to-back 5-1's to level the scores. Another 5-1 from Arnold Haley and reserve replacement Rick France in heat 11 gave Sheffield the lead and Arnie and Bengt Larsson claimed the match winning points ahead of guest John Titman in heat 13.

Dick Barrie's programme notes entreated fans to write to London Weekend Television praising them for their outside broadcasts of speedway racing in an attempt to ensure continued and improved coverage. Those were the days!
