Brady Kurtz got the drop from the outside gate ahead of Jack Holder and Norick Blodorn out paced Kyle Howarth to establish an early lead for the Aces. Jason Edwards led the way in heat 2 until Antti Vuolas barged under him on the very last bend. Chris Holder was untoubled winning heat 3 but Josh had machine problems and never got going. Dan Bewley won heat 4 but Bomber and Dan Gilkes shared the points. Jack won heat 5 ahead of Jaimon Lidsey but Kyle got the better of Ben Cook to level the scores at 15 all.

Brady and Norrick responded with a 5-1 over Bomber and Jason in heat 6. Chris Holder lowered Dan's colours in heat 7 but Josh ground to a halt with yet more machine problems. The Aces doubled their lead with another maximum heat win from Jake Mulford and Norrick over Kyle and Dan. Jaimon beat Bomber winning heat 9 with Ben ahead of Jason to go 10 points ahead. Chris Holder became the first to beat Brady in heat 10 and Josh eventually managed four laps and finished ahead of Norrick. Aces 8 points ahead.

Jack won heat 11 from Dan but Kyle trailed behind Antti. Jaimon lowered Chris Holders colours in heat 12 with Dan hanging on to third. Jack took a vital win ahead of Dan and Brady in heat 13 but Bomber was uncharacteristically last. Josh eventually found his mojo winning heat 14. Dan and Jaimon were Mark's nominations against Simon's choice of the Holder brothers. The Aces third 5-1 put them in the driving seat for the second leg at Owlerton.

Although the track was getting slicker Chris Holder chose not to alter his setup for heat 15 as it had been so strong. Only four points from high flying Josh Pickering coupled with four rides without a single win, unheard of for Bomber at the NSS, left the Tigers with a massive task on their hands.
