My man of the match for 2 vital late wins; Lewis Heavy rain earlier in the day was augmented by more starting 30 mins before the start time. It was actually forecast for later in the evening so racing commenced at 7:30 without a parade. Kyle won the toss and selected gates 1&3 for the first race. David made a beaut of a start from the inside gate with Jack right on his tail. With soggy shale flying there was no passing. Heat2 was won by Tom Brennan from the inside gate while Dan Gilkes passed Jake Mulford out of turn 2 into 3rd place only for his bike to develop a miss-fire. Heat3 Kyle traps from gate 1 but his mate Charles edges ahead exiting turn 2. Kyle dives up the inside into turn 3 and Adam moves into 2nd on the inside of turn 4, but Charles battles back to split the Tigers. (See '2023 Season Review DVD' by Clean Cut Sports) . Heat4 is a win for Brady Kurtz from Tobiasz but Dan's machine is back on song and he out paces Jake for another shared heat. Heat5 is a tapes to flag win for Dan Bewley and Norick Blödorn passes Adam to make it a 5-1 to the Aces who take the lead by 14-16.

Heat6 sees Jack trap from gate 1 to win from Brady despite pressure from David but the scores are level again and the rain has stopped! Heat7 and Tobi makes gate 2 look good although Lewis struggles from gate 4. Heat8 and rising stars Jake and Dan are on the inside gates. Neck and neck into turn 1 but Jake (I'll be kind) forgets to turn sending Dan G heading for the fence and David shutting off before he goes the same way. Dan just avoids becomming the first to christen the new fence and David shows great determination to catch and pass Norick. Heat9 and Brady tries a similar move on Kyle on the first turn but Adam and Kyle get alongside exiting turn 2. Adam makes a determined move into turn 3 and Kyle wastes no time following his lead and the 5-1 is well received by the Owlerton faithful. Heat10 and Charles leads from gate 1 but Jack goes high and wide before diving through into the lead on turn 3. David pushes hard but the scores are now Tigers 32-28 Aces.

Heat11 and Tobi off gate 1 is joined by Lewis and the pair team ride perfectly for a 5-1 ahead of hard pushing Dan B. Tigers fans joy is short lived as Mark Lemon immediately makes a tactical substitution with Brady in for Tom in heat 12. Their 5-1 pulls them back into contention despite Simon swapping Lewis for Dan G. Heat13 and the big guns are out. Dan B off gate 1 is the early leader but Tobi powers around him out of turn 2. Jack holds off Brady and the Tigers go 6 ahead. Heat14 and Lewis off gate 1 gets a flyer but this time Charles beats Kyle and the Tigers lead by 8. Heat15 features the usual suspects but Tobi is pulled back for a tapes infringement. Brady gets a flyer in the restart and keeps hard chasing Tobi at bay but Jack has machine issues and surrenders third place to Dan B.

The track improved greatly as the meeting progressed but after a strong start Jack seemed to struggle. Adam also must look to recover previous form while David and Lewis were good value. Dan Gilkes gave the lie to him being a small track man and looks like an excellent prospect. The return leg is on Monday in Manchester and the Tigers will have to keep the scores close if they want the aggregate bonus point.
