Reg Wilson's finest hour? The dominant English Lions touring party took a 5-0 lead in the current test series winning this first Brisbane meeting with a 16 point margin. Jim McMillan and John Boulger both had to miss rides following knee injuries on what was a very heavy track which favoured the Lions' sharper gating. Local track record holder Steve Reinke changed his gearing during the interval and bounced back to deny Reg his maximum.

The sixth test followed at the same track one week later, and with Lou Sansom and Phil Crump replacing Billy Sanders and John Boulger the 'Roo boys gained revenge winning by 60-47. Scorers were Reinke 15+1, Titman 13+2, White 10+1, Crump 9+2, Torpie(res) 8, Sansom 3+2 and Loakes 2. For the Lions; Wilson 14, Boocock 9+1, Broadbelt 9, McMillan 6+4, Collins 5+1, Hunter 3 and Wyer(res) 1.
